Chinese Mythology: Mysterious Fantasy from the Orient

What is Chinese mythology?

Chinese mythology is a collection of myths and tales that recorded and passed down from ancient times. It is a means to explain natural phenomena and social phenomena, and express people’s good wishes and pursuit of ideals. With wild imagination, ancient people created many supernatural characters such as gods, fairies and spirits and touching stories. Chinese mythology can be divided into four kinds, including primitive myths, religious myths, folklore myths and literary myths.

Well-known characters in Chinese mythology

In Chinese mythology, there are some well-known characters and their stories are still widely spread. Inspired by these interesting stories, the designers designed many characters of Suri’s surprising figure dolls.

Nuwa

Nuwa is a half-man and half-snake goddess who created the world. After that, she used the clay to create human beings and the human society. It is said that she patched the sky with colorful stones and constructed dams to keep the rivers from flooding to save humans in a disaster.

Chang’e

Chang’e is a goddess in the moon. To begin with, she was a mortal. Then, after eating the elixir of life, she became immortal, separated from her husband and lived in the mythical palace in the moon with a rabbit. That date was the 15th day of the eighth month in the lunar calendar, which is now known as the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is celebrated in China to express reunions with family.

Animals of Chinese mythology

In addition to some gods and goddesses, some animals play a vital part in Chinese mythology and are given particular significance.

Intelligent ancient people creates four symbols according to observations and researches of stars. They divided the sky into four sections and each section has a corresponding symbol, which stands for a mythological creature. They are respectively Azure Dragon in the east, White Tiger in the west, Black Tortoise in the north, and Vermillion Bird in the south.
